From then on, you'll have to worry about traffic again. Watch out, though, as you approach the toll booths. Not only is there no traffic to worry about, but boosting will actually help you slide better through the turns, getting maximum speed through them. Where you do want to boost is through the sweeping turns of the mountain path near the middle of the course. You can stay ahead without even using your boost in most places. There's no need to push your car to the limits around the corners of the track, and no reason to dare oncoming traffic. You can stay ahead of the pack again by driving safely. Right away, watch out for the fountain ahead of you and pull left onto the freeway track. You'll head back to Europe for the second race, which thankfully has less problematic traffic than the last race. The best way to race is safe-as long as you don't crash, you'll be able to keep up with your opponents, even if you're not racing your absolutely fastest. The course is littered with traffic in the second half, and your fragile circuit car is extremely vulnerable. This long race will challenge your traffic dodging skills as well as your patience. To start off the series, you'll race around Lakeside Getaway for two laps. UNLOCKS: Dominator Muscle Mountain Parkway Face-Off 2 The course isn't short, but just a couple of takedowns on your rival is all you'll need to keep ahead and win the race. If you slide through these while avoiding traffic, you'll gain a decent lead on your opponent as you head into the final portion of the course. Slide around the next series of turns until you enter the downtown area, filled with ninety-degree turns going left and right. If you don't fancy getting wrecked, stay to the right side of the road until after the first turn. At the end of the first stretch, he'll try and bump you into the oncoming bus to the left. Right off the bat, your rival will try and get nasty with you. UNLOCKS: Mountain Parkway Face-Off 1 Golden City Special Event If you can make it through without wrecking, you should end up in first place. Be aggressive, but focus mostly on slick racing during this stretch of track. Use long drifts to speed through the corners at top speed, and don't crash! If you opponents get ahead of you here, it's gonna be hard to catch up. It's when you take to the third section of the track that you have to start getting serious. The second portion of the course, the wide-open freeway, will also work to your advantage as long as you can avoid the traffic. Use the tunnels along the way to get pushy with your opponents (the narrow tunnels are great for takedowns), and try to get an early lead. The first portion of the course is designed in your favor. If you want to play aggressively, pick something heavy, otherwise stick with a light and fast car to blast through the course. This race takes you on a reverse course through Lakeside Getaway. You can also use the more narrow course to score a takedown on your opponent before crossing the finish line. As the course narrows and winds back up the mountain, use powerslides on the lightly-trafficked roadways. The last section of the track is luckily more advantageous to you. Driving into oncoming traffic can earn you some extra boost to keep up, but it'll take more aggressive driving to keep your opponent behind you. If the other racer gets too far ahead of you, he'll be long gone on this stretch of freeway, so don't let him pass and take him down whenever possible. Though there's a considerable amount of traffic to worry about, you'll need to play aggressively (and dangerously) if you want to keep up with your rival. The second portion of the race takes you onto the wide freeway. This is one portion of the track where you can outrun your opponent just by racing well, though even if you do score a takedown on him, bet on him staying close behind you. With little traffic to worry about, use huge powerslides to make it through corners marked with yellow arrow signs. You start the race in the winding mountain roads. Even though you're racing just one challenger, face-off races are often the most difficult in the game. Pick the fastest car you've got available and take to the road. This long race will definitely test your consistency. ![]()
